Ethics Alert
The Committee on Judicial Ethics occasionally renders advisory opinions that are likely to have an impact on the immediate future conduct of judicial officials in addition to the inquiring judicial official. The purpose of the “ethics alert” is to bring such relevant opinions to the attention of all judicial officials in a timely manner.

Issue: A Judicial Official received a letter from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (“MADD”) in which the organization informed the Judicial Official that he/she has been selected to receive an award at its annual community dinner.  In the correspondence, MADD offered to pay for the Judicial Official’s dinner, as well as the dinner of a guest, and requested biographical information and a photo...
