Author of Lincoln's Gamble: The Tumultuous Six Months that Gave America the Emancipation Proclamation and Changed the Course of the Civil War
Todd Brewster is a veteran journalist and historian who has served as Senior Producer of ABC News,
Senior Editor at Time-Life and as the Don E. Ackerman Director of Oral History at West Point. He
is the co-author, with the late Peter Jennings, of The Century, a history of the twentieth
century that spent over a year on the New York Times Best-seller list and sold more than 1.6
million copies. From 2004-2005, he was Knight Fellow at Yale Law School and from 2006-2007 he
was Distinguished Visiting Professor at Wesleyan University, where he taught First Amendment law to
undergraduates. His most recent book, Lincoln's Gamble: The Tumultuous Six Months that Gave
America the Emancipation Proclamation and Changed the Course of the Civil War has been described by
George Stephanopoulos as a masterful psychological portrait. The historian Joe Ellis had similar
praise: This story has been told before, he wrote, but never as well, with such a firm grasp of
the revolutionary implications of Lincoln's decision, or the multilayered levels of Lincoln's quite
tortured thought process. Although Lincoln is the most written-about figure in American history,
Brewster's book is a major entry in the Lincoln
sweepstakes. |
