Standing Committee on Guardians Ad Litem
and Attorneys for the Minor Child in Family Matters


Effective January 1, 2026, if you are a mental health professional, licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and in good standing, in an area other than clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, psychology or psychiatry, looking to apply for approval to be eligible to serve as a guardian ad litem by the Standing Committee on Guardians ad Litem and Attorneys for the Minor Child in Family Matters pursuant to Practice Book Rule 25-62(b)(3), you may do so by:

  • Emailing your application to GALAMCFA@jud.ct.gov (You must attach your application in PDF format to your email) or;
  • Mailing your application to GAL Standing Committee, 225 Spring Street, 2nd Floor, Wethersfield, CT 06109

NOTE: Pursuant to Practice Book Section 25-62(b)(6), all new guardians ad litem must complete the mandatory course of 20 hours of pre-service training administered by the Division of Public Defender Services prior to becoming eligible to serve as a guardian ad litem in family matters. Purpose:

The purpose of the committee is to approve the curriculum for the training required for guardians ad litem and attorneys for the minor child; establish and administer a process by which an individual may be removed from the list of those deemed eligible for appointment as a guardian ad litem or attorney for the minor child; annually review and approve a list of individuals deemed eligible for appointment as a guardian ad litem or attorney for the minor child; and adopt procedures to carry out its functions.
