Consolidation of Geographical Areas 6
and 8 into New Geographical Area 23

Merger of Geographical Area 16 and Establishment of New Geographical Area 14

The following changes will take place effective at the close of business on December 31, 2001:

Geographical Area (G.A.) 6 and G.A. 8 will be consolidated into a new G.A. which will be known as G.A. 23. The courthouse for the new G.A. 23 will be the existing facility at 121 Elm Street in New Haven. All matters pending at G.A. 6 and at G.A. 8 will thereafter be pending at the G.A. 23 court location.

G.A. 16 will be merged into G.A. 14. The existing courthouse at West Hartford will close. At that time, the boundaries of the existing G.A. 14 will be expanded and this new G.A. 14 will consist of the towns of Avon, Bloomfield, Canton, Farmington, Hartford and West Hartford.

As a result of the creation of the new G.A. 14, the following additional changes will be effected by the Chief Court Administrator effective at the close of business on December 31, 2001:

Criminal matters, motor vehicle felonies, motor vehicle misdemeanors, and non motor vehicle infractions and violations whether or not payable by mail pursuant to C.G.S. 51-164n, which are pending in G.A. 16, shall be transferred to the new G.A. 14.

In addition to its current venue, G.A. 15, New Britain, will serve as venue for motor vehicle cases pending on the West Hartford Regional Infractions Docket at G.A. 16 that originated in the towns of Avon, Canton, East Granby, Farmington, Granby, Hartford, Simsbury, Suffield, West Hartford, Windsor and Windsor Locks and the files of such cases shall be transferred to G.A. 15. G.A. 15 will also serve as venue for motor vehicle matters originating after the close of business on December 31, 2001 in the above towns and which before that date would have been heard at the West Hartford Regional Infractions Docket at G.A. 16.

In addition to its current venue, G.A. 19, Rockville, will serve as venue for motor vehicle cases pending on the West Hartford Regional Infractions Docket at G.A. 16 that originated in the towns of Bloomfield, East Hartford, East Windsor, Enfield, Glastonbury, Manchester, Marlborough, and South Windsor and the files of such cases shall be transferred to G.A. 19. G.A. 19 will also serve as venue for motor vehicle matters originating after the close of business on December 31, 2001 in the above towns and which before that date would have been heard at the West Hartford Regional Infractions Docket at G.A. 16.

Please direct any questions that you may have relating to these changes to the undersigned.

Lawrence D'Orsi
Deputy Director of Criminal Court Operations
