Sentencing Advisory:
State of Connecticut vs. Michael Skakel

The sentencing proceeding in the case of State of Connecticut vs. Michael Skakel is scheduled to take place commencing at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at the Superior Courthouse located at 17 Belden Ave. in Norwalk.

Those news organizations that received credentials for the trial are credentialed for the sentencing. Reporters for those credentialed news organizations must pick up new identification tags as they come into the courtroom on the 28th.

Credentialed news organizations are advised to have their reporters/ correspondents arrive between 9 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. There will be no guarantee of a seat if a reporter arrives after the proceeding has begun.

Credentialed reporters should be in their seats, in the designated press section, by 9:30 a.m. These seating arrangements will remain in effect until the sentencing proceeding is concluded.

No interviews may be conducted in the courtroom or in the courthouse. Interviews may occur only in the designated media pen located behind the courthouse.

The news media will be allowed to use their cellular telephones inside the courthouse immediately after the sentencing. They must do so, however, toward the back of the building; Judicial Marshals will be available to direct them to the appropriate location. Until that time, cell phones may not be used inside of the courthouse.

Cell phones and beepers will be allowed into the courtroom as long as they are muted.

Other rules in effect during the trial remain in place. The Judicial Branch reserves the right to modify any of the rules due to unforeseen circumstances.
