Stamford Judicial District Courthouse to Host the Regional Bar Mock
Trial Competition
The Stamford Judicial
District Courthouse will host the 13th Annual Regional Bar
Mock Trial Competition on Friday, March 28, 2003 from 11:30 a.m. until 5
p.m., in Courtrooms A, B, C, E and F on the sixth floor.
Students from the
following high schools will participate: Stamford, Westhill, Norwalk,
Brien McMahon, Greenwich, Trumbull, Laurelton, and New Canaan. The
students will present arguments in a hypothetical case called "Neighbors
Against AIDS Homes v. Our House," involving a dispute over having an
AIDS residence in a particular neighborhood. Students act as both
attorneys and witnesses, and each high school will try the case twice -
once for the plaintiff, and once for the defendant.
Many area attorneys
will participate in the competition as judges and as coaches for the
high school teams. Additionally, Judges John J.P. Ryan and Frank H.
D'Andrea, Jr. will be participating. The competition is coordinated by
Attorney Maurice K. Segall.
This competition is
part of the statewide mock trial competition that is sponsored by the
Connecticut Bar Association and the Connecticut Consortium for Law and
Citizenship Education. The final round of this competition will be held
in the Supreme Court courtroom on May 1, 2003 -- which is Law Day.
