The Connecticut Judicial Branch is pleased to announce that it will again be sponsoring a program for senior citizens entitled "Seniors and the Law." The program is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at the Fairfield Judicial District Courthouse at 1061 Main Street in Bridgeport. The program will run from 9-12 noon, with pre-registration from 8:30-9:00 a.m., outside the seventh floor jury assembly room where the program will take place.

The event features such speakers as Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, Consumer Protection Commissioner Edwin R. Rodriguez, Supervisory State’s Attorney John L. DeMattia, Attorney Greg Barringer, Deputy Director of the Jury Administration Karen A. Berris and Program Manager for the Judicial Branch’s Volunteer Program Robyn Oliver.

Topics scheduled to be addressed include: fraud and schemes perpetrated on seniors; abuse, neglect and exploitation of persons 60 years or older; Medicaid fraud and physical abuse of seniors; power of attorney, durable power of attorney for health care, living will and do not resuscitate orders; jury service as it applies to seniors; and an overview of the volunteer program that provides opportunities for individuals to contribute to the state’s court system.

All seniors are invited to this free program. Also, family members and friends of seniors are invited to attend. A tour of the Bridgeport Courthouse will be offered at the conclusion of the program.
