Representatives of the
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc.
(CALEA) are scheduled to conduct an on-site assessment of the
Connecticut Judicial Branch’s Judicial Marshal Academy from
April 24-27, 2005, and the public will have the opportunity to
provide their comments via a telephone call.
The team of assessors will
examine all aspects of the academy’s policy and procedures,
management, and operations and support services, according to
Joseph D’Alesio, executive director of the Branch’s Superior
Court Operations Division.
As part of the on-site
assessment, Branch employees and members of the public are
invited to offer comments by telephone. Individuals may call
(860) 282-6582 on Tuesday, April 26, 2005, between 2 p.m. and
5 p.m.
Telephone comments are limited
to 10 minutes and must address the academy’s ability to comply
with commission standards. A copy of the standards is
available for inspection by contacting Attorney Richard P.
Terbrusch at (860) 706-5325, who is a program manager within
the Court Operations Division and accreditation manager for
the academy.
Individuals who want to offer
written comments about the academy’s ability to meet the
accreditation are requested to write: Commission on

The assessors – David R. Hobson
of the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training and
Robin D. Geis, the former chief of the Dublin, Ohio, Division
of Police -- will review written materials, interview
individuals, and visit offices and other locations where
compliance may be observed. The assessors will report to the
commission once they complete their review, and the commission
then will decide whether to accredit the academy.
The academy must comply with
182 standards to gain accreditation, which lasts three years.
If accreditation is granted, the academy must submit annual
reports over that three-year period, attesting to continued
compliance with the standards.
