the Superior Court
HARTFORD - Chief Court Administrator Joseph H.
Pellegrino announced today that he has appointed the Hon. F. Herbert Gruendel to the

Judge Gruendel replaces the Hon. Anne C.

"As Presiding Judge over the Family
Division in the Hartford Judicial District, Judge Gruendel has exhibited the ability to
handle sensitive matters affecting families and children with compassion and
fairness," said Judge Pellegrino. "I look forward to working with him in the
future."
"The judges who hear family cases here in
Connecticut are extraordinary," said Judge Gruendel. "They are dedicated to
helping the people who appear before them deal with some of life's most difficult
situations. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with them for the families of our
state."
Judge Gruendel was a public school principal and
teacher before attending the University of Connecticut School of Law where he earned his
Juris Doctor with honors in 1984. He earned his A.B. in English Literature from Drew
University in 1969, a M.A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland in 1971, a

where he conducted research in juvenile law. He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in
1984, and was in private practice at the New Haven firm of Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt &
