MEDIA ADVISORY
Re: State v. Michael S.
The arraignment in this case remains scheduled for February
21, 2001 at 10 a.m. in Courtroom B at GA 1 Courthouse, 115 Hoyt Street in Stamford.
The arraignment will be held promptly at 10
a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2001. News professionals are asked to report to the
courthouse no later than 8:45 a.m. Representatives of the press must take their seats in
the courtroom no later than 9:50 a.m.
Following the arraignment, the media will be asked to clear
the courtroom and wait outside for any statements that might be made. Interviews will not
be permitted in the courtroom. A podium will be outside the courthouse for any such
statements.
For the information of the electronic media, please be
advised the courthouse does not have a public address system. Placement of a mult box at
the podium would provide access to an audio feed. It is strongly suggested that the
electronic media determine who among them has a mult box and arrange with the Marshal to
set it up at the podium.
Satellite trucks will not be allowed to park on Hoyt Street
overnight. Stamford Police will clear the street and allow parking by 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Trucks may park in the Stamford High School parking lot Tuesday night. (Directions to the
Stamford High School parking lot are at the end of this advisory).
The courtroom is on the first floor of the building. There is
no onsite parking. Directions to the courthouse are available at our website www.jud.ct.gov. MetroNorth has frequent trains
from Grand Central Station to Stamford and there are cabs and a city shuttle bus available
at the station.
The Connecticut Practice Book (Sections 1-10, 1-11) does not
allow the broadcasting, televising, recording or photographing of court proceedings by
news media for proceedings that take place before the jury has been sworn in and, in
non-jury cases, before the swearing in of the first witness.
The use of laptop computers is permitted as long as use does
not disturb the court proceedings. Cell phones and pagers must be muted in the courtroom
and any calls must be made or received outside of the courtroom.
In case of inclement weather or any changes in the scheduling
of this matter, notices will be posted on the website and faxed to the media. Please check
our website at https://www.jud.ct.gov for
updates.
No cameras, recording devices, food or drinks are permitted
in the building. The marshals will not permit entry to anyone having any of these items
with them.
Please refer all inquiries to Ginny Apple, Manager of
Communications, for the Connecticut Judicial Branch, 860-757-2270.
