MEDIA ADVISORY
Re: State of Connecticut vs. Michael Skakel
The parties in State of Connecticut v. Michael
Skakel will appear before the Superior Court for the Judicial District of
Stamford/Norwalk at Stamford, Criminal Division, on April 18, 2001 at 10 a.m. for a
Probable Cause hearing. The hearing will be held at GA 1 Courthouse, 115 Hoyt Street in
Stamford.
Media organizations wishing to attend this proceeding
should fax a request on company letterhead to Ginny Apple, Manager of Communications,
Connecticut Judicial Branch, 860-757-2215. The name of the reporter or sketch artist must
be provided. Please include a fax number with your request. Please note previous requests
are not valid.
Fax transmissions will be accepted during business and
non-business hours from the time of the release of this advisory until Monday, April 16,
2001 at 10 a.m. No extensions or exceptions will be considered.
Reporters from Connecticut daily newspapers, television and
radio stations will receive pre-assigned seats as will the Connecticut Bureau of the
Associated Press, the Connecticut Bureau of The New York Times, and The
Connecticut Law Tribune. However, Connecticut organizations must still fax a letter of
request and commit to daily coverage of the proceedings. We have reserved seats for
members of the victims and respondents families, counsel, court officials and
the public.
If the number of media requests does not exceed the
available seating, all such requests will be granted.
If the number of requests exceeds the seating capacity,
media representatives must pool in each of the following categories: print media (includes
daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, books) television, radio and sketch artists.
The Connecticut Practice Book (Sections 1-10, 1-11)
does not allow the broadcasting, televising, recording or photographing of court
proceedings by news media for proceedings that take place before the jury has been sworn
in and, in non-jury cases, before the swearing in of the first witness.
The use of laptop computers is permitted as long as use
does not disturb the court proceedings. Cell phones and pagers must be muted in the
courtroom and any calls must be made or received outside of the courtroom.
Notification of receipt and acceptance of requests will be
announced on the Connecticut Judicial Branch website at https://www.jud.ct.gov and by fax Monday
afternoon, April 16, 2001.
In case of inclement weather or any changes in the
scheduling of this matter, notices will be posted on the website and faxed to the media.
The media should be alert to such change. Please check our website at https://www.jud.ct.gov for updates.
Please refer all inquiries to Ginny Apple, Manager of
Communications, for the Connecticut Judicial Branch, 860-757-2270.
