ADVISORY
Re: State
v. Michael Skakel
The parties in State v. Michael
Skakel will appear before the Superior Court for the Judicial District
of Stamford/Norwalk at Stamford, Criminal Division, on Wednesday, April
18, 2001 at 10 a.m., for a probable cause hearing. The hearing will be
held in Courtroom B at the GA
1 Courthouse located at 115 Hoyt Street in Stamford.
The hearing will be held promptly at
10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2001. News professionals are asked to
report to the Courthouse no later than 8:45 a.m. and to take their seats
in the courtroom no later than 9:55 a.m.
Following the proceedings, the media will
be asked to clear the courtroom and wait outside for any statements that
might be made. Interviews will not be permitted in the courtroom. A podium
will be outside the Courthouse for any such statements.
The Stamford Police Department will allow
satellite trucks to park on Hoyt Street beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday,
April 18th. Thanks to the cooperation and planning of the
Stamford Police and Traffic Departments, satellite trucks may stay parked
in their assigned spots on Hoyt Street from Wednesday morning until the
culmination of the probable cause proceedings. Satellite trucks may park
in the Stamford High School parking lot Tuesday night. (Directions to the
Stamford High School parking lot are at the end of this advisory).
Media wishing to shoot outside the
courthouse prior to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18th or to set
up their tripods may do so. It should be noted, however, that television
cameras must be portable. No trucks will be allowed to park on Hoyt Street
prior to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18th, even for brief shots.
Directions to the courthouse are available
at our website www.jud.ct.gov.
No cameras, recording devices, food or drinks are permitted in the
building. The marshals will not permit entry to anyone having any of these
items with them. There is no onsite parking.
MetroNorth has frequent trains from Grand
Central Station to Stamford and there are cabs and a city shuttle bus
available at the station.
The Connecticut Practice Book
(Sections 1-10, 1-11) does not allow the broadcasting, televising,
recording or photographing of court proceedings by news media for
proceedings that take place before the jury has been sworn in and, in
non-jury cases, before the swearing in of the first witness.
The use of laptop computers is permitted as
long as use does not disturb the court proceedings. Cell phones and pagers
must be muted in the courtroom and any calls must be made or received
outside of the courtroom.
In case of changes in the scheduling of
this matter, notices will be posted on the website and faxed to the media.
Please check our website at https://www.jud.ct.gov
