The Office of Victim Services Provides Assistance to Victims of the Terrorist Attacks

HARTFORDThe Connecticut Office of Victim Services (OVS) is providing help to Connecticut residents affected by Tuesday's tragedy. OVS provides services, referrals to non-profit and public organizations and information on victim rights and resources. OVS may be reached at 1-800-822-8428 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

The Office of Victim Services may assist Connecticut residents who were injured or who lost a loved one in this tragedy by providing counseling referrals and assistance regarding financial compensation. OVS Victim Advocacy staff may refer families to counseling services and to support groups that are dedicated to the needs of those who have lost a loved one from homicide.

Although Connecticut victims and family members affected by this tragedy are not eligible for financial compensation through the Connecticut OVS Compensation Program, they may be eligible for compensation through the New York State Compensation Board. OVS Compensation staff will provide affected Connecticut residents with New York Crime Victims Board Claim Application. An application may be obtained from OVS by calling (800) 822-8428. OVS staff will work with victims and their family members to complete and forward the application to New York.

Questions, counseling referrals, and New York claim applications requests may be directed to Linda Johnston and Ronald Manzione, OVS Victim Advocates, at (800) 822-8428, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For additional information about this program or to receive an application, please contact OVS at 1-800-822-8428.
