MEDIA ADVISORY: Update on Justice Borden’s Public Access Task Force

Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice David M. Borden announced today that Superior Court Judge Jon M. Alander, Superior Court Judge Barry K. Stevens and Hartford resident William J. Cibes Jr. have been added to the Judicial Branch’s Public Access Task Force.

Judge Alander and Judge Stevens will replace Judge Antonio C. Robaina and Judge Arthur A. Hiller, respectively. In addition, Justice Borden said, he has appointed Mr. Cibes to the task force as a member of the public. Mr. Cibes is a former chancellor of the Connecticut State University system, served as former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr.’s budget director, and is a former state representative from New London.

Also, Connecticut Law Tribune reporter Lisa Siegel, an original member of the task force, informed the Judicial Branch that she is unable to serve.

The task force will hold its first meeting Thursday, May 25. The meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. in the Supreme Court building, located at 231 Capitol Ave., Hartford. The meeting is open, and cameras will be allowed. Meeting Agenda - (PDF)

Justice Borden this month formed the task force, which includes judges, lawyers and journalists experienced in covering courts. Supreme Court Justice Richard N. Palmer will chair the task force, which is charged with providing specific recommendations to Justice Borden by mid-September.

According to Justice Borden, “The mission of the task force is to make recommendations for the maximum degree of public access to the courts, consistent with the needs of the courts in discharging their core functions of adjudicating and managing cases.”
