MEDIA ADVISORY: Update on Justice
Borden’s Public Access Task Force
Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice David M. Borden announced
today that Superior Court Judge Jon M. Alander, Superior Court
Judge Barry K. Stevens and Hartford resident William J. Cibes
Jr. have been added to the Judicial Branch’s Public Access Task
Force.
Judge Alander and Judge Stevens will replace Judge Antonio C.
Robaina and Judge Arthur A. Hiller, respectively. In addition,
Justice Borden said, he has appointed Mr. Cibes to the task
force as a member of the public. Mr. Cibes is a former
chancellor of the Connecticut State University system, served as
former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr.’s budget director, and is a
former state representative from New London.
Also, Connecticut Law Tribune reporter Lisa Siegel, an original
member of the task force, informed the Judicial Branch that she
is unable to serve.The
task force will hold its first meeting Thursday, May 25. The
meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. in the
Supreme Court building,
located at 231 Capitol Ave., Hartford. The meeting is open, and
cameras will be allowed.

Justice Borden this month formed the task force, which includes
judges, lawyers and journalists experienced in covering courts.
Supreme Court Justice Richard N. Palmer will chair the task
force, which is charged with providing specific recommendations
to Justice Borden by mid-September.
According to Justice Borden, “The mission of the task force is
to make recommendations for the maximum degree of public access
to the courts, consistent with the needs of the courts in
discharging their core functions of adjudicating and managing
cases.”
