PRESS ADVISORY: Public Access Task Force Final Report Available on Website

The final report of the Connecticut Judicial Branch’s Public Access Task Force is now available on the Branch’s website: Public Access Task Force Report - (PDF) .

Senior Associate Justice David M. Borden appointed the Task Force in May. It includes members of the bench, news media, bar and public. Supreme Court Justice Richard N. Palmer chaired the Task Force, which had a deadline of Sept. 15, 2006, to submit its report to Justice Borden.

Justice Borden will meet with the state’s judges on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at 2 p.m., in the Middlesex Judicial District courthouse, located at 1 Court Street, Middletown. At that meeting, judges will have the opportunity to comment on the report’s recommendations. The meeting, to take place in the jury assembly room, is open to the public.

Justice Borden also has scheduled a press conference for Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at 2 p.m., in the attorney conference room at the Connecticut Supreme Court, located at 231 Capitol Avenue, Hartford. At this time, he will announce those recommendations that he plans to implement immediately, and those for which he will propose a rule or statutory change.

“This report and its various recommendations represent months of hard work and discussion about how to make the Judicial Branch more accessible to the public,” Justice Palmer said. “I am extremely appreciative to all of the members of the Task Force, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with such a talented and dedicated group of individuals.”

The mission of the task force was to make concrete recommendations for the maximum degree of public access to the courts consistent with the needs of the courts in discharging their core functions of adjudicating and managing cases.
