PRESS ADVISORY: Retired R.I. Chief Justice to speak about Lincoln at Supreme Court’s Law Day ceremony

The Connecticut Supreme Court will celebrate this year’s Law Day with remarks from the Hon. Frank J. Williams, a well-known expert on Abraham Lincoln, who recently retired as Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. 

This year’s Law Day theme is A Legacy of Liberty: Celebrating Lincoln’s Bicentennial. 

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 1 , in the Supreme Court courtroom, located at 231 Capitol Ave . Cameras will be permitted.                     

Connecticut Chief Justice Chase T. Rogers will introduce Justice Williams, who will be followed by Attorney Livia D. Barndollar, president of the Connecticut Bar Association. Supreme Court Justice Flemming L. Norcott, Jr., then will present awards to AMISTAD America, Inc. and Michael Burlingame, May Buckley Sadowski professor of history emeritus, Connecticut College. The honorees are receiving the awards for preserving the legacy of President Lincoln through historical study, education and by their words and deeds.
