Representatives of the Commission on Accreditation for Law
Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) are scheduled to conduct an
on-site assessment of the Connecticut Judicial Branch’s Judicial
Marshal Academy from April 16-19, 2011, and the public will have
the opportunity to provide their comments via a telephone call.
The team of assessors will examine all aspects of the
academy’s policy and procedures, management and operations and
support services, according to Joseph D’Alesio, executive
director of the Branch’s Superior Court Operations Division.
As part of the on-site assessment, Branch employees and
members of the public are invited to offer comments by
telephone. Individuals may call (860) 706-5043 on Monday, April
18, 2011, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address
the academy’s ability to comply with commission standards. A
copy of the standards is available by contacting Jamey L. Harris
at (860) 706-5325, who is a program manager within the Court
Operations Division and serves as the accreditation manager for
the academy.
Individuals who want to offer written comments about the
academy’s ability to meet the accreditation standards may send
their comments to: Commission on Accreditation for Law
Enforcement Agencies, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320,
Gainesville, VA 20155.
The assessors – Mr. David Hornyak II, risk manager for the
Ohio Attorney General’s Office, and Deputy Director Keith King
of the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Theft Bureau
– will review materials, interview individuals, and visit
locations where compliance may be observed. The assessors will
report to the commission once they complete their review, and
the commission then will decide whether to reaccredit the
academy.
The academy must comply with 160 standards to maintain
accreditation, which is awarded for three years. During that
period, the academy will submit annual reports attesting to
continued compliance with standards. For information on
