Bringing Real-Life Court Cases to
Students and the Community
The Supreme Court provides university, college, and law school students with the opportunity to
observe oral arguments in actual court cases through its popular "On Circuit" program.
Each year, the court selects a location at which to hear arguments, with the goal of educating
students about the role and responsibilities of the appellate system through this interactive
and engaging real-life experience.
All arguments are open to the public and members of the community are welcome to attend.
Several people are involved with the planning process once a site is selected, including Supreme
Court staff and school faculty and volunteer attorneys who prepare the students on what to expect
the day of the arguments. Two cases are typically argued on the day of the event, and after each
argument, the attorneys who argued the case participate in a question-and-answer session with the
students
Since 1996, when the program began, the Supreme Court has held On Circuit Sessions across the state. If you are interested in having the Court visit your school, please
email external.affairs@jud.ct.gov.
