Through a grant from the U.S. Department
of Justice, Office of Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics, External
Affairs and The Justice Education Center, Inc. have written and produced a
video on Megan's Law. External Affairs also produced a
booklet on Megan's Law in collaboration with the
Department of Public Safety, the Board of Parole, the Connecticut Sexual
Assault Crisis Services, Inc. and Connections, Inc.
The Megan's Law video follows a family that discovers a sex offender has moved into the
neighborhood. The video follows the family as they learn about the
information and guidance that is available to them to deal with the
situation. In a scene featuring the couple and their daughter, the video
offers suggestions on how parents can discuss the subject with their
children.
The booklet offers in-depth information, definitions and
statistics on child sexual abuse, sex offenders, date/acquaintance rape and
other related material. It also offers guidelines for parents on matters
such as how to talk to their children about sexual abuse, where to obtain
further information or how to report such abuse.
