Housing Matters

Pursuant to CGS 47a-68, housing matters include matters involving summary process (evictions), appeals from decisions of fair rent commissions, discrimination in the sale or rental of residential property, forcible entry and detainer, violations of health and safety standards, security deposits, back rent and damages.



Glossary of Terms

Housing Sessions: Housing Sessions are specific court locations that hear cases involving a housing matter, as authorized by CGS 51-348. Housing Sessions are located in the judicial districts of Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, Fairfield, Waterbury, and Stamford-Norwalk.

Non Housing Sessions: All other Geographical Area and Judicial District locations which hear housing matters, as authorized by CGS 51-348.

Summary process: An action by an owner or lessor, or their legal representative, to regain possession or occupy property; an eviction action.
