Curriculum
The Judicial
Branch developed Connecticut Courts: An Interactive
Curriculum for High School Students. The second segment,
The Rule of Law and the Amistad Case, provides
information about the importance of rule of law, which requires
that judges decide cases in accordance with the law,
uninfluenced by public opinion or pressure.
- Invite a Superior
Court judge to your high school
If you
are interested in inviting a Superior Court judge to come to
your high school to talk about the importance of the rule of
law in our democratic society, please contact Jim Senich,

- Visit the Supreme
Court
As part of the Law Day celebration, you may want to make
arrangements to
visit the Connecticut
Supreme Court in Hartford and learn
about the role of the Supreme Court and its role in upholding
the rule of law. To schedule a tour of the Supreme Court

- Learn about jury
duty and how it relates to the rule of law
The Judicial
Branch established the Jury Outreach program in 2004 to
teach high school students about their rights and
responsibilities as jurors, the jury system and what to
expect if they serve. To schedule a presentation for your

honored members of the minority bar associations.
Chief Justice Chase T. Rogers
and
Attorney Norman K. Janes, Past
President of the Connecticut Bar Association, made remarks.

Waterbury Bar Association held its Law Day event on
May 1, 2008 at the Waterbury Judicial District Courthouse
located at 300 Grand Street in Waterbury. |

The Stamford Judicial District held its Law Day
ceremony on May 1st at 9:30, in
collaboration with the Fairfield County Bar
Association. Judge Robin
Pavia delivered the
keynote address. |

The Litchfield County
Bar Association organized the Law Day program that took
place in the 2nd floor courtroom of the Litchfield Superior
Court. It featured a presentation of the Liberty Bell award
to long-time Assistant State's Attorney Andrew Wittstein.

The New Britain Judicial
District's Law Day ceremony was held on May 6, 2008 in
the courthouse. Professor and Attorney Emanuel Margolis
gave the
keynote address.

The final round of the
Statewide Mock
Trial Competition sponsored by the Consortium for Law and
Citizenship Education, Inc. was held in the Supreme
Court courtroom on Friday, May 9, 2008, before
Chief Justice
Chase T. Rogers, Justice Christine S. Vertefeuille
and
Justice Peter T.

The Supreme Court, in collaboration
with the Supreme Court Historical Society, held a
ceremony to commemorate its 200th anniversary. As part of
the celebration, Justice Flemming L. Norcott,
Jr., discussed the Amistad case and its importance in
history for upholding the rule of law. For more information
