Re: State of Connecticut v.
Michael Skakel
The Judicial Branch, in anticipation of final
arguments and the jury charge early next week in State of Connecticut vs.
Michael Skakel, wants to inform the news media of the following:
- Credentialed news media professionals must be in
their seats in the courtroom by 9:50 a.m., Monday, June 3.
- No interviews may be conducted in the courtroom
OR IN THE COURTHOUSE. INTERVIEWS MAY OCCUR ONLY IN THE MEDIA PEN.
This
is for crowd control, but also to maintain as much fairness as possible to
all of the media organizations present.
For the duration of the jury charge, no one will be
allowed to enter or exit the courtroom, including the news media. This
prohibition applies to the charge only.
The news media will be allowed to use their
cellular telephones inside the courthouse immediately after any verdict.
They must do so, however, toward the back of the building; Judicial
Marshals will be available to direct them to the appropriate location.
Previous rules developed for the trial remain in
effect, including the requirement that photographers/camera operators
remain behind the barricades in the media pen. The pool arrangement for
the front of the building remains in effect:
ONE still photographer/ ONE camera operator.
Again, the Judicial Branch would like to thank the
news media for their continued cooperation throughout the trial.
Please call Rhonda Stearley-Hebert, Manager of
Communications, with any questions, 860-757-2270.
