Small
Claims Information Now on Judicial Branch Website
The public now may access
information about small claims cases filed in Connecticut's courts
through the Judicial Branch's website, at
http://www.jud2.ct.gov/Small_Claims/.
Chief Court Administrator
Joseph H. Pellegrino predicted that this new feature will greatly assist
members of the public, particularly since many small claims litigants
represent themselves. In addition, he said, providing such information
via the website will free up Judicial Branch personnel to handle other
matters.
"Between layoffs and
retirements, the Judicial Branch's resources have been greatly
stretched,'' Judge Pellegrino said. "Providing information over the
website is among the most cost-efficient means we have at our disposal
to help both the public and our staff."
The case information is
updated at the close of business and includes data entered as of the
previous workday. It is possible that some documents filed with the
clerk may not have been entered into the Small Claims Case Look-up; in
that event, individuals are advised to check the Look-up at the end of
the day or the next day to see if the information has been updated.
Small claims case
information may be searched by docket number, party name, court
calendar, attorney case list, attorney calendar and attorney search.
The available data will
display information from all small claims cases, except libel and
slander, where the money damages claimed do not exceed $3,500, or in the
case of security deposit claims only, a double amount that does not
exceed $7,000.
The success of the Judicial
Branch's Civil and Family Case Look-up prompted the Branch to consider
requests from attorneys, pro se litigants and clerks for a Small Claims
Case/Party Look-up.
