Law Day 2013

Realizing the Dream, Equality for AllJustice
According to the American Bar Association, the 2013 theme for Law Day highlights the promise of equality under the law which has made America a beacon to other nations. It is a pledge clearly set forth in the Declaration of Independence and in the opening words of the Preamble of the Constitution, “We the People.” It is, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, the proposition to which our nation is dedicated.

Law Day 2013 was celebrated in the following courthouses:
  • Supreme Court Ceremony - Honoring the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut
  • Appellate Court Ceremony - Hosts Students for Dramatic Readings of Historical Documents about Equality
  • Hartford Judicial District Ceremony - Recognizes Hartford JD Victim Advocates
  • Litchfield Judicial District Ceremony - Honors Deputy Chief Clerk with its Annual Liberty Bell Award
  • Stamford Judicial District Ceremony - Hosts Jam-Packed Celebration
  • Windham Judicial District Ceremony - Local Child Advocate, Christine Collins Receives Liberty Bell Award

Judges who participated in Law Day 2013 around the state
In Connecticut, it is tradition that every May, state judges talk to high school students about the importance of the rule of law, the role of the courts and the Law Day theme. Many judges return to their alma maters and judges who hadn’t grown up in Connecticut visit schools in the towns in which they live and work. This year, thirty Superior Court judges and Supreme Court justices addressed more than 1,600 students at twenty-eight different schools, vocational and extracurricular programs:
